Magellan developed two drinks sample advent calendar concepts to showcase how packaging can be used as both a marketing tool and a festive gifting solution for drinks brands. The project features two formats designed around different bottle sizes and product uses, demonstrating how structure, artwork and layout can be creatively tailored for different brand strategies.

These calendars were created as concept samples, showing how branding, messaging and visual identity could be incorporated into calendar design rather than representing finished branded products. This allows drinks companies to visualise how their own branding might be applied to similar formats.

Reindeer Calendar – Wine Focused Advent Calendar

The Reindeer calendar concept was created with wines and larger-format bottles in mind, offering a strong structural solution for brands wishing to include full-sized or premium bottles within a festive calendar format. The internal layout allows for a larger featured bottle alongside the remaining compartments, creating a natural focal point within the design.

The external size of the calendar is 43cm in length, 20cm in width and 45cm in height. It is constructed using E-fluted board and includes perforated advent doors. Full CMYK printing allows for bold, high-impact artwork, shown here through a bright geometric design style and playful typography along the side panels. Within the artwork, a natural gap at the centre of the illustration demonstrates where a brand logo or message could be accommodated when producing a client version of the calendar, without redesigning the overall structure.

Wreath Calendar – Spirits Sampling Advent Calendar

The Wreath calendar concept was designed for miniature bottles such as gin or spirit tasters, making it ideal for daily sampling campaigns or promotional gifting. All internal compartments are the same size, allowing brands to present a consistent daily reveal throughout the calendar period.

The structure measures 43cm in length, 13cm in width and 31cm in height and is manufactured from E-fluted board with perforated doors. The festive wreath artwork gives the calendar a traditional Christmas feel, while also providing flexibility for brands to integrate their own identity into the design. The composition of the artwork and the clear surface areas on the front and sides show how logos, messaging or seasonal campaigns could be applied without overpowering the design.

Flexible by Design

Rather than acting as finished branded units, these calendars were created to demonstrate how different design approaches and structures can support a range of brand identities. From bold, modern illustration styles to more traditional festive themes, both formats are intentionally flexible so clients can adapt the visuals, colours and messaging to suit their own campaigns.

Affordable Alternative to Rigid Calendars

By using E-fluted board construction rather than rigid board, both calendars provide a cost-effective option for brands wanting to explore advent calendars as a marketing tool without committing to a premium price point. This makes them well suited to promotional campaigns, sampling initiatives, corporate gifting and influencer activity where volume and scalability are key.
